Baileys Harbor Fiber Updates
Cellcom Completes First Fiber-to-the-Home Installation in Door County
December 2022
Cellcom completed its first fiber-to-the-home installation in the town of Liberty Grove! Construction of pilot projects to deliver fiber internet are complete in both Liberty Grove and Baileys Harbor, giving residents and businesses in the pilot areas access to speeds starting at 300 Mbps and ranging up to a gigabit. The first installation in Baileys Harbor will take place in early 2023.
Our initial partnership with Liberty Grove began in the fall of 2021 with a pilot project to bring fiber to a portion of the community. In October of 2022, the town selected Cellcom to build out the remainder of the township, with plans to deliver fiber to every address.
Baileys Harbor received a broadband grant in June to deliver fiber to the remaining addresses in the community. This portion of the project is expected to begin in 2023 and will expand fiber to more than 1400 homes and 70 business that were largely unserved or underserved in terms of both speed and reliability.
Cellcom continues to deliver on its promises to rural communities to deliver the best technology available and improve access to high-speed internet. Thanks to the many teams working to make these projects possible!
Nsight Prepares to Kick off Pilot Projects in Baileys Harbor and Liberty Grove
July 2022
Nsight has partnered with two communities in Door County to begin delivering fiber internet to their residents. Construction on two pilot projects will begin soon. These projects will be marketed under the Cellcom brand.
As we announced last year, Nsight partnered with the Town of Liberty Grove for a broadband grant to build fiber-to-the-home to 44 residents and one business in the township. Our team has designed and engineered the network and we’re currently waiting on final construction bids and equipment that was ordered to begin installing fiber. The town and Nsight continue to assess project details to serve every address in Liberty Grove in the future.
In Baileys Harbor, Nsight wasselected early this year to partner with the community as they pursued fiber to every address. While the full project was awarded a broadband grant in June, the pilot project to serve 33 homes in the town is underway. Most of the construction for both of these projects will be aerial. This requires work to the utility poles by the utility company. This is complete in Liberty Grove, however we are awaiting completion in Baileys Harbor before beginning construction. Equipment delivery is still pending for this project, as well.
While dates for construction are being finalized, early sign-up for customers in both project areas will begin August 1. Customers will need to partake in early sign-up to get service during this year’s construction season. This requirement will create efficiencies for our team and help us best coordinate the installations to homes.
Nsight is committed to serving rural areas and these projects are two more examples of doing just that!
Cellcom Purchases Northern Door Communications
March 2022
Cellcom is excited to announce the purchase of our agent location in Sister Bay, Northern Door Communications, as owner Greg Diltz enters retirement. Under Greg’s ownership, Northern Door Communications has served Cellcom customers in northern Door County, including Washington Island, for more than 30 years. Greg and his team have built a strong customer base over the years and been dedicated ambassadors for Cellcom. Purchasing the agent location will allow Cellcom to maintain this established presence and continue to provide exceptional service for our northern Door customer base.
In addition to supporting our wireless customer base, a strong retail presence has been a key asset for Cellcom fiber markets, like Shawano and Luxemburg. With Nsight being selected as the broadband partner forBaileys Harbor and a broadband grant for a fiber-to-the-home pilot project inLiberty Grove, the Sister Bay location will support fiber customers as we bring internet to more rural markets.
The purchase will be announced to the public on Friday, March 4. Northern Door Communications will close on Saturday, March 19 and the location will open as a Cellcom store on Monday, March 21. Additional operational details will be announced prior to the official opening.
Baileys Harbor Chooses Nsight as Broadband Partner
January 2022
The Baileys Harbor Town Board is moving forward with plans to bring fiber internet to residents and businesses in the township and voted to pursue partnership with Nsight!
The broadband committee analyzed proposals from eight companies and forwarded four finalists to the board, town officials approved the committee pursuing Nsight as the long-term partner in providing broadband fiber lines to all premises within the township. While the partnership is not finalized, this vote is an important step.
As noted in a recent community news article, Nsight was the committee’s number one candidate. It favored companies with strong ties to Door County or northeast Wisconsin, as well as companies with good reputations. Our fiber backbone throughout the peninsula and work with Washington Island Electrical Cooperative to make quality internet service available to all island businesses and households were cited as positive examples, along with the Luxemburg fiber project.
The committee sought references about Nsight, and key words from those included “high-quality work,” “honest,” “transparent,” “trustworthy” and “incredibly professional.”

The board also approved spending $150,000 for an engineering design to complete the plans for the fiber network. The town will work with Nsight on this portion of the project, as well. Baileys Harbor intends to apply for grant funding over the course of the project, which may stretch over the course of three to four years. Completing the engineering design will strengthen grant applications.
Nsight is committed to serving rural areas and our strong reputation has helped us earn another opportunity to do just that!
